New painting time

This is one I started awhile back and last night I just went back and finished it. I'm hopefully getting over my grey problem... The main goal of this was just to invoke a mood.

Wheat Field Finished!

So here's all three combined, plus a cut-in on the third to show some of the detail that you can't see zoomed out. I'm also throwing up a selection of thumbnails from the process.

It was a lot of fun to use the same colour pallet for 3 related Images, so I'll probably do it again. Next I'd like to do a large scale city kind of thing, so we'll see where that goes!

Wheat field 02

This is the second of what was 2, and now is 2nd of 3, as I have one more to add to this series in the coming weeks.

Wheat field 01

First of what I'm planning to be a two part series, I wanted to go with a brighter colour palate for this since in retrospect most of my paintings are at night. Variety and such!

Slum

I've been working a lot on finding what kind of results I want from myself in art, and this is the first painting along that journey. I tried to keep the brush work more pronounces and organic. I dig how it turned out so I will press onward in this direction! Process below.

This was based off of the two characters I sketched in the post below.

sketchbook update

I've been playing around with some brown pens and proportional canons, starting to get some stuff I really like! The patterns on the characters were inspired by some neat African masks I found at the ROM.

Life Drawing! Final classes for winter semester at Sheridan

Finally feel like I'm starting to find my groove in life drawing, Chiseling FTW. Its a shame its over for the semester and I have to wait until September to sign up for the next session. I'll have to venture into the big city to find some drop in sessions to keep in shape.

Trantor first piece - Final

This is the final version of the piece I posted a while back. The second painting in the series is almossssst done. Life? Am I right?

Edit: For some reason the jpeg version, only after being uploaded, had its values change? mystery...PNG uploaded and seems to look as intended now.

ROM sketchbook preview

As a for fun personal project, I've been working on a sketchbook of drawings I do only at the Royal Ontario Museum, it's become apparent it will take a long time, but when I'm done I'm going to do a YouTube video flipping through it, here's a preview of a page I did today!

Painting: Trantor 1 of 2

I got really into reading the Foundation series by Isaac Asimov. After finishing the third book in the series, I wanted to do a few paintings of what I thought Trantor looked like after its fall. So here is the first of two paintings, I'll post the next one when I finish it, should be soon!

New portfolio addition, The Boatman

This is a work I'm adding to my portfolio both because I'm happy how it turned out, and also to show the process I use when creating a character.

As a side note, I also updated the portfolio with a few other images, as well as lightened most of the full scene paintings to better show them how I meant them to appear. Due to a poorly calibrated monitor, most of them appeared way to dark on other peoples machines.

Future city

This was a painting I started I think forever ago, I just finished it up. I admit it's a bit dark, but I'll get it right next time:)

Life Painting, Class #01

Got to my first life painting class on Saturday, and here's my first attempt:

2 hours ish, acrylic on canvas paper.

I think from here on out, I'm going to give water colours a go since I have some interest in them for sketching.I'll try and photograph the pieces with more even lighting in the future...

Life Drawing II, Class#1

As I keep on the road to improving my art skills, this semester I'm taking Life drawing II and Painting II. So I'll keep posting up the exercises. These are all from my first class of Life drawing II. They turned out better then I thought being only the second time Ive done it in ten years or so, but I have a lot of room to improve to get to where I want to be. My main goal is to improve my gestures and get a more natural look to my human characters. Also I want to get a better aesthetic going and proportions and all that.
